Nguyen enrolled at the University of California, San Diego, after graduating high school in 1988. In 1993, he received his Bachelor of Science in Biology. He attended the University of Southern California, or USC, for dental school. He earned his bachelor’s degree in 1997 and immediately enrolled in an additional year of Advanced Education in General Dentistry at the University of California, Los Angeles, or UCLA.

Dr. Khuong entered the field after completing this training phase, but he quickly realized that pediatric dentistry was his true passion. To work in the profession he desired, he enrolled in a two-year pediatric dental residency at Lutheran Medical Center, a teaching affiliate of the New York Health Science Center in Brooklyn. One of his primary objectives was met during his first year of residency. He was named “Best Project in Pediatric Dentistry” in a research awards competition. This verified that pediatric dentistry was Dr. Nguyen’s calling and that he had significant potential in it.

Dr. Khuong Nguyen currently has a dental office focusing on pediatric dentistry. This has taken a lot of work, and he didn’t get there alone. In 1998, he began his career as an associate general dentist. He served in this capacity for a year before transferring to Lutheran Medical Center to complete his two-year pediatric dentistry residency. After completing his residency, he worked as an associate pediatric dentist for less than three years. He created Clairemont Pediatric Dental in 2003. After beginning his career, he became Board Certified in 2008. Dr. Nguyen has been in practice for 19 years and has a thriving practice now.

Dr. Nguyen now holds all required licenses to practice pediatric dentistry. He is presently a Board Certified pediatric dentist in the state of California. To maintain his certification, he must attend frequent educational sessions and demonstrate that he is current on contemporary pediatric dental technologies and treatments. In addition to this credential, he holds a DEA license. A DEA license is a federal license issued by the Drug Enforcement Administration. According to the DEA, any dentist who orders distributes, prescribes, or administers any prohibited medicine must be registered and licensed. Dr. Khuong is also trained in oral sedation. This enables him to administer oral sedatives to children as needed during pediatric dentistry procedures, lowering anxiety and pain. This also shows that Dr. Nguyen has had sufficient training in administering these oral sedatives.

Dr. Khuong Nguyen has a happy marriage. He strives to spend as much time as possible with his wife. Although he does not have his children, he feels that family is critical. He is constantly spending time with his siblings, nieces, and nephews. He also considers his close friends family and treasures his time with them.
